On PC, choosing the right graphics card (GPU) for your build can be the difference between barely pushing 30 frames-per-second (fps) at the lowest settings and playing Skyrim Special Edition, remastered for the glorious 4K 60 fps gold standard. Unfortunately, with so many cards to choose from, buying a graphics card isn’t as straightforward as it seems.
Your intuition might drive you to pursue the best of the best, the cream of the crop – in other words, the most expensive. For those of us who don’t want to shell out a down payment for a car on some hardware that could power one, the solution is to aim for the best bang-for-buck deal on a set budget, though it’s important to consider, too, the quality of the monitor it’s attached to. That goes without mentioning the ongoing trend of bad PC ports, which can burden even the mightiest of equipment.
