Street Fighter V review
It’s September,1993, my birthday week. It’s the year I finally become a teenager and it’s turned out to be the greatest birthday ever as it’s coincided with the launch of Street Fighter II: Special Champion Edition. The edition where all of the grand masters were unlocked. For the first time you could play as Balrog, Sagat, Vega and M Bison. For the first time you found out just how bad Balrog was as a character to play.
My brother’s also excited, as this is a game where playing against the computer and unlocking the myriad end sequences is fun, but nothing compared to a versus match with a real person. Finally there was a reason to have a brother. It wasn’t brotherly love, though: Street Fighter invoked real fighting between us, as we only had one six-button gamepad for our shared Sega Megadrive. Toggling the buttons on a three-button pad by pressing Start was a handicap that all-but-guaranteed an own KO. We were one phone call away from being a Daily Mail story.
