It’s been 14 years since the first Ratchet and Clank game was released by Insomniac Games for PlayStation 2. I don’t say this to make you shake your head in disbelief at how much time has passed; I say it to point out how incredible it is that the franchise has thrived for so long. Eight main titles and five spin-offs have been released since that first game, and although, for me, none since have held the magic of the first, they’ve been consistently good.

However, you can only go on for so long before consistent won’t cut it anymore. You need to shake things up, but not at the expense of distancing existing fans. There’s no better way of drawing back your old fans than giving them the opportunity to tell newcomers that they’ve been there from the beginning. Ladies and gentlemen, you know what that means: a reboot and a movie tie-in.
