With the massive growth of the Internet of Things (IoT), sales of devices to secure the home have become increasingly popular. Companies like Google-owned Nest and now Amazon-owned Blink are battling it out to produce smaller and easier-to-use cameras that can be placed around your property without the need for any wiring, and which can be controlled via a smartphone app.
Then there’s Arlo. Although it’s currently owned by US tech giant Netgear – a company best known for its routers – it’s recently been reported that Arlo is about to be spun off as a separate company due to its success.
Certainly Arlo has gained a reputation for producing a range of solidly built internet cameras although how it will fare going it alone against offerings from companies such as Amazon and Google remains to be seen.
Here we look at one of its high end security camera systems, the Arlo Pro 2, which currently retails for $479.99 (£499.99, AU$479.99) for the starter pack with the hub and two cameras. You can buy other packs with more cameras, or individual cameras if that better suits your needs.
