When the gaming audio gurus at Turtle Beach set out to design the HyperSound Clear Stereo System, they had to acknowledge some hard truths.

The first? As much as we hate to admit it, we’re all getting older. We’re not the same kids we were 20, 30 or even 40 years ago, playing [insert your childhood gaming console here] in the living room while mom and dad read the paper and urged you to get some sun already.

Secondly, due to our age and/or listening habits, we’ve probably lost a good deal of our hearing.

The National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders (NIDCD) estimates that about one in eight people aged 12 years and older have hearing loss in both ears, while about 15% of adults in America between 20 and 69 years old have high frequency hearing loss due to exposure to noise at work or during leisure activities.

Yeah, it sucks.

One last fact, and it’s an important one: according to the NIDCD, among adults aged 20 to 69, approximately 16% who could benefit from wearing hearing aids have ever used one.
