Sleek and stylish, Huawei’s first non-touch Ultrabook is replete with a handful of record-breaking characteristics. For starters, it’s the smallest 13-inch laptop in the world measuring in at 28.6 x 21.1 x 1.25cm (11.26 x 8.31 x 0.49 inches; W x H x D) and packs the thinnest bezel, too, at 0.17 inches (4.4 mm).

Even with a full-size chiclet keyboard, the MateBook X keeps its weight low and its profile even lower at 2.31 pounds (1.05kg), making it considerably lighter than the 3.02-pound (1.37kg) MacBook Pro.

Design

Still, it’s hard not to be skeptical of Huawei’s admittedly derivative pursuits. While their aspect ratios differ, MateBook X looks all too much like the 12-inch MacBook with Retina Display. Likewise, the “Prestige Gold” and the even more blatantly “inspired” Space Gray color variants of its all-aluminum shell are eyeroll-inducing, if only because of how unimaginative the naming conventions are.

Even so, you can’t fault Huawei for going after a market full of Windows users champing at the bit for MacBook styled machine but dislike macOS.
