Nvidia Volta release date, news, and features

By Andrew Hayward

When it comes to PC graphics cards, Nvidia’s varied selection of powerful GPUs is unmatched. From the wickedly powerful, 4K graphics-pumping GeForce GTX 1080 Ti to the entry-level GTX 1050 – and everything in between – Nvidia remains the gold standard.

But, as gamers demand new levels of graphical fidelity and researchers and tech companies alike require greater GPU computation and artificial intelligence abilities, that standard keeps growing higher and higher. For those purposes, Nvidia is busy developing their new generation of GPU architecture: Nvidia Volta.

We’ve already seen some previews of what Volta has in store, as Nvidia has launched two professional-level Volta GPUs back in 2017, though they’re prohibitively expensive and focus on learning applications – not for maxing out games. Still, everyone is waiting to see the new GeForce GTX cards, especially when you consider the massive leap in performance we’re expecting to see over the current 10 series. That is, if Nvidia’s new Turing architecture isn’t what the GeForce GTX 11 series is built on.

Eager for an upgrade? Here’s everything that we’ve heard so far.
